AUBURN — Union Springs boys basketball nearly hit the century mark and Isaac Brozon's heroics lifted Southern Cayuga in the opening round of the Cayuga County Holiday Basketball Tournament on Friday.Â
The Wolves defeated Port Byron 95-44 to advance to the championship game at Cayuga Community College Saturday.Â
Union Springs set the tone early with a 16-0 run to open the game. Rocco Testa had 13 of his game-high 27 points in the opening frame, which was capped off by Aaron Johnson's half-court shot to put the Wolves up 29-14 after one.Â
The Wolves padded their lead in the second quarter, with Testa adding three early buckets and Nevin Brown scoring 8 points in the period.Â

With a 76-33 lead heading into the final quarter, Union Springs flirted with triple figures. Johnson had a pair of buckets and DeChick drained the last of his five 3-pointers. As the lead grew to 50, though, the Wolves opted to run out the clock instead of continuing its offensive assault.Â

Weedsport grabbed the lead early in the third quarter, with Sorci hitting a pair of threes and Kocur adding a bucket. Brozon responded with a trey and a 3-point play to put Southern Cayuga ahead again.Â
Southern Cayuga upped its lead to seven in the fourth quarter after Benjamin Kermidas scored 5 quick points, including a 3-point play. After another Brozon three, Kocur answered with a three of his own. The teams exchanged buckets until Weedsport converted two free throws to tie it at 58.Â
That set the stage for a memorable ending. Sorci hit a corner three with 25.3 seconds left to put Weedsport ahead by three, 61-58. Southern Cayuga had one chance to tie the game and turned to its best player, Brozon, who delivered a clutch three with 5.9 seconds left to tie the game.Â
