The Cato-Meridian football team has canceled its game on Friday after a number of players were suspended, according to Superintendent Noel Patterson.
The Blue Devils were scheduled to host Watertown IHC at 7 p.m. at Cato-Meridian High School, but in an email Thursday, Patterson said the team had to forfeit the game due to a lack of eligible players.
"Cato forfeited (Friday's) game due to the suspension of a number of team members for an incident that took place off school grounds," he wrote. "The team will resume its regular schedule on Oct. 1 against Beaver River."
Patterson did not reply to a request for more detail on the "incident" that led to players being suspended.
Section III Executive Director John Rathbun could not be reached for comment Thursday, but Rathbun reportedly told that Cato-Meridian was investigating a hazing incident.
