A month after medaling at the world's largest commercial beer competition, Auburn's Prison City Pub & Brewery has been recognized as one of the best breweries in the state.
The site Americas Best Beer included the State Street brewpub among 15 New York breweries in an Ìýto determine the state's best. Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown is the only other central New York brewery to make the cut from the state's .
Americas Best Beer it used an algorithm that factors in beer competitions, online beer and brewery ratings, and industry experts' rankings to compile ballots for all 50 states plus Washington, D.C. The other four New York breweries to medals at this year's Great American Beer Festival — Great South Bay Brewery, Grimm Artisanal Ales, Crossroads Brewing Co. and Newburgh Brewing Co. — also appear on the ballot.

Prison City brewer Ben Maeso a silver medal at the festival in the Belgian-Style Blonde Ale or Pale Ale category for his Bleek Worden, which should be available again at the brewpub soon.
Owner Dawn Schulz, who Prison City in December, called the medal "instant validation" in an interview with мÓƶà¶à¿ª½±¼Ç¼ earlier this month.
"It puts Auburn on that beer map," she said.
