According to Cuomo's office, CEO Kevin Ellis will join the governor, other business leaders and state government leaders on the trip.
Cayuga Milk Ingredients, based in Aurelius, makes dairy products, including non-fat dry milk and skim milk powder. The plant, which has approximately 60 employees, has customers in Africa, Asia and South America.Ìý
Cuba could be a new market for Cayuga Milk Ingredients. Ellis said in an email Sunday that Cuba purchases more than 20 million pounds of skim milk powder each year, but none of that supply comes from the United States.Ìý

"Cayuga Milk Ingredients currently produces very high quality skim milk and milk protein powders for the export market, made from high quality milk produced on our locally-owned family farms," Ellis said. "This trip is an opportunity to learn more about the Cuban dairy industry. My goal is to position Cayuga Milk Ingredients to be able to market locally-made skim milk powder and milk proteins in Cuba."Â
The trade mission — the first led by a governor since — will depart Monday.Ìý
"The representatives in New York's delegation will help ensure Empire State companies are at the front of the line as the door opens to a market that has been closed to U.S. enterprise for over a half century," Cuomo said in a statement.
"These industry leaders will serve as ambassadors for all that New York state has to offer and will help form the foundation for a strong economic relationship between New York and Cuba as legal restrictions on trade are eased in the future."Â
Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, Senate Minority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Senate Independent Democratic Conference Leader Jeff Klein will travel with the trade mission to Cuba.Ìý
Along with Cayuga Milk Ingredients, the businesses participating in the trade mission include central New York-based Chobani, JetBlue, MasterCard, Pfizer and Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo.Ìý
Howard Zemsky, president and CEO of Empire State Development, said this trip and others would help boost New York businesses.ÌýState officials are planning trade missions to other countries, including Canada, China, Israel and Mexico.Ìý
"New York state will lead a series of economic trade missions that will strengthen existing trade relationships and create new ones," Zemsky said. "These trade missions will increase visibility for New York state and help New York businesses expand their global footprint."Â
