Northern Cayuga County will begin 2025 under a five-day-long winter storm watch, with heavy lake effect snow in the forecast from New York Day's through the weekend.聽
The National Weather Service issued the watch early Monday. According to the agency's alert, the watch covers northern Cayuga, Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego and Wayne counties. It is in effect from Wednesday afternoon through Sunday afternoon.聽
Snowfall accumulations of more than 7 inches are possible in the watch area. Heavier snowfall is expected across the Tug Hill Plateau and southeast of Lake Ontario.聽
The weather could create difficult travel conditions and reduce visibility.聽
