The name of Auburn Community Hospital's first baby of 2025 was inspired by someone unable to meet him.
KayVon David Adams-Sylvester was born there at 8:14 a.m. Thursday to parents Valissa Sylvester and Justin Gaddy. Speaking with мÓƶà¶à¿ª½±¼Ç¼ over the phone at the hospital Saturday morning while her son slept soundly, Sylvester said KayVon's last name includes a tribute to her mother, Margaret Adams, who died in 2020.
Adams was there for the arrival of Sylvester's other three children, she said, so she was determined to make sure her mother was present in some way for KayVon's birth. Sylvester brought a picture of Adams with her, and it was placed at a nearby windowsill as she delivered the baby.
"She loves her grandkids and she's always front and center when the kids are being born," Sylvester said. "That was not going to change."

Sylvester said the birth went well, but she was glad it was over.
She noted she was also born at the Auburn hospital, as were KayVon's brothers, Jayden Sylvester, 19, and twins Damari and Dakota Anderson, 10.Â
"It's wonderful. They take good care of you here," she said. "They make you feel at home. I definitely didn't want to have my kid anywhere else."
While Sylvester was raised in Auburn, she and Gaddy met after she moved to North Carolina. They moved to Auburn around five months ago.
Sylvester and her son were set to be discharged from the hospital Saturday afternoon. She said Damari and Dakota told her excitedly over the phone earlier in the day that they cleaned the house in anticipation of their new brother's arrival. She knew exactly what she wanted to do when she got back.
"Have some real food," she said. "And be at home with my kids."
